As the COVID-19 pandemic continues to cancel annual events across the globe, the Jakarta Book Fair will be available online on e-commerce platform Shopee starting on Thursday.
Initiated by the Association of Indonesian Publishers (IKAPI), the online bazaar will boast over 31,000 book titles from 85 publishers, including Balai Pustaka, Gagas Media, Gramedia, M&C!, Mizan, Mojok Store, Penerbit Erlangga, UI Publishing and Trubus. Customers can expect to find various genres, from language, fiction and children’s books to hobbies, religion and nonfiction.
Aside from offering up to 90 percent discounts, the Jakarta Book Fair Online (JakBook Online) will also provide free delivery services and special vouchers, as well as feature online talk shows with authors.
According to JakBook Online organizing committee head Mh Sadli, participating publishers had prepared around 900,000 books for the event.
“Hopefully, this will support the country’s economic growth,” he added in a statement.
Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan praised the organizers for still holding the event during the outbreak.
“This book fair is an opportunity to improve people’s literacy, reading interest and knowledge,” Anies said in a statement.
The Jakarta Book Fair will have its 30th edition this year. The event is usually held at Istora indoor stadium in the Gelora Bung Karno sports complex, Central Jakarta.
The annual Big Bad Wolf book sale has also shifted online because of the pandemic, currently holding its second online bazaar on Tokopedia. (wir/kes)Artikel Asli
