BEIJING, June 25 (Xinhua) -- Chinese stocks closed lower on Tuesday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index down 0.44 percent to 2,950 points.
The Shenzhen Component Index closed 0.83 percent lower at 8,850.29 points.
The combined turnover of stocks covered by the two indices stood at 648.2 billion yuan (about 91 billion U.S. dollars), down from the 695.6 billion yuan recorded on the previous trading day.
Shares related to tourism and education led the gains, while semiconductor stocks suffered major losses.
The ChiNext Index, tracking China's Nasdaq-style board of growth enterprises, lost 1.82 percent to close at 1,700.02 points Tuesday. ■
