MOSCOW, Jan. 27 (Xinhua) -- There has been no indication from Washington on potential contact between Russian President Vladimir Putin and U.S. President Donald Trump, Kremlin Spokesman Dmitry Peskov said on Monday.

"So far, we have not received any signals from the Americans," Peskov said.

He confirmed that Russia remains ready for such talks, adding that the United States is also prepared for potential negotiations. At the same time, Peskov said that it seems "a certain amount of time is needed."

Putin has repeatedly confirmed Moscow's readiness for talks on Ukraine.

In a recent interview on Friday, Putin said he has "pragmatic" and "trust-based" relations with the current U.S. president. He reiterated that Russia is open to talks on the Ukrainian crisis, noting however that Kiev's previous ban on negotiations would make such talks illegitimate.

On Thursday Trump said he wanted to meet Putin as soon as possible to secure an end to the war in Ukraine.

"I really would like to be able to meet with President Putin soon to get that war ended," Trump told the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland via videolink. ■
