The government has mobilized all security agencies in the county to ensure peaceful coexistence among residents, Gachagua said.
"Lamu County has long been a battleground for terrorists. They have had their way, but moving forward, it will no longer be business as usual. Our security agencies are closely monitoring them, and they will face tough consequences," he said during a funeral service in the county.
He said that the government's investment in security has helped prevent terrorist attacks in Mombasa and other coastal towns known for beach tourism. Kenya's security forces have successfully contained terrorist activity to areas near the Somali border and the Boni Forest, located in the southeastern part of the country near the Lamu archipelago in the Indian Ocean.
"Security is crucial for this county. Lamu is rich in resources, including those related to the blue economy. We urge unity among the communities living here and encourage continued efforts to foster cohesion and communal harmony," he added.
Despite increased security measures, reports of militia presence and attacks in Lamu and along the border persist. The region has seen deadly militant attacks in recent years, claiming the lives of both security officers and civilians. ■
