Investigations are ongoing on both sides of the connection.

HELSINKI, Dec. 25 (Xinhua) -- The Estlink 2 electricity connection between Finland and Estonia has been disrupted, according to local media reports on Wednesday.

The reports, citing a statement from Finland's grid operator Fingrid, indicated that the direct current connection went offline at 12:26 p.m. (1026 GMT) on Wednesday. At the time of the disruption, power transmission from Finland to Estonia was reported to be 658 MW. Fingrid has launched an investigation to determine the cause of the outage.

The Estonian Public Broadcasting (ERR) reported that Elering, the Estonian grid operator, has also confirmed the outage but stated that the reason for the disconnection remains unknown. Investigations are ongoing on both sides of the connection.

Estlink 2, in operation since 2014, is a high-voltage direct current (HVDC) link that connects Finland and Estonia. It was built to complement Estlink 1, the first HVDC connection between the two countries, which was commissioned in 2006. ■
