SEOUL, Dec. 21 (Xinhua) -- South Korea's ruling party has decided to take part in a consultative body for stabilizing the operation of state affairs, its floor leader said on Friday.
Kweon Seong-dong, the floor leader of the People Power Party (PPP), told reporters that his party has decided to participate in the body between the rival parties and the government to discuss issues on security and improving people's livelihoods, adding a discussion with the National Assembly Speaker Woo Won-shik is underway on the body's make-up, Yonhap news agency reported on Friday.
The announcement marked a reversal of the ruling party's attitudes toward the issue, as the PPP had turned down a proposal last Sunday by Lee Jae-myung, the leader of the main opposition Democratic Party, for the country's parliament and government to set up such a body to facilitate multi-party cooperation on state affairs.
During a meeting with Han Duck-soo, the country's acting president, at the National Assembly on Sunday, the parliament speaker stressed the imperative and urgency to launch the consultative body.■
