Three popular Kenyan online content creators have secured fully funded trips to China following a competitive selection process.

NAIROBI, Sept. 21 (Xinhua) -- Three popular Kenyan online content creators have secured fully funded trips to China following a competitive selection process.

Mulamwah, Moya David, and Benawamalines were announced winners Friday after being chosen from a pool of applicants who responded to a call from the Chinese embassy in Kenya earlier this month.

The trio creates diverse content and has hundreds of thousands of followers on social media platforms, including TikTok. "These content creators stood out from a competitive pool of applicants and will embark on an exciting journey exploring the cities of Beijing, Shanghai, and Chongqing starting Sept. 22," the embassy said in a notice.

Kenyans are encouraged to follow their journeys on social media for insights and adventures throughout their stay in China.

The selection process required interested creators to post on social media expressing their enthusiasm for visiting China using the hashtag #travelchina. The embassy said the trip is aimed at deepening the understanding of ordinary Kenyans about China, a nation with which Kenya has shared bilateral ties for over 60 years.

Kenya boasts a thriving online community and content creation has become a viable profession for many. The Kenyan government has been actively promoting digital skills training to enhance online job opportunities.

This trip aligns with those efforts, demonstrating the potential for content creation to provide meaningful opportunities and income for Kenyans. ■
