BOGOTA, July 23 (Xinhua) -- Colombia opened the nation's new Caribbean Oceanographic and Hydrographic Research Center on Saturday.
The main goal of the center is to provide an adequate space for maritime and hydrographic scientists from the defense sector to develop research projects focusing on Colombia's natural and strategic resources and assisting the navy in the fight against transnational threats, said Colombian Defense Minister Diego Molano.
Molano expressed the hope that the center "becomes an example and benchmark for Colombia as an institution that promotes research and innovation for the development and protection of the sovereignty of our oceans and seas." ■
