BEIJING, May 27 (Xinhua) -- Chinese comedy "The Last Frenzy" stayed atop the box office chart on the Chinese mainland on Sunday, data from the China Movie Data Information Network showed.
The film, which explores life's choices in the face of death, raked in 15.61 million yuan (about 2.20 million U.S. dollars) on the day, bringing its total revenue to 696 million yuan since its release on May 1.
It was followed by the action crime thriller "Twilight of the Warriors: Walled In," which garnered box office sales of 13.04 million yuan on Sunday.
American sci-fi "Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes" came in third with daily earnings of 7.59 million yuan.
The total box office revenue on the Chinese mainland stood at 74.52 million yuan on Sunday. ■
