The legal conscience of France and Britain should require them to admit publicly that the Chinese claims to the South China Sea Islands (Nanhai Zhudao) are historically valid in Western international law terms, said British legal scholar Anthony Carty after he has gone through 100 years of British, French, as well as U.S. archives on the South China Sea.
