BEIJING, Nov. 30 (Xinhua) -- Here are the latest Chinese sports headlines from the past week:

1. China's 12th National Traditional Games of Ethnic Minorities concludes in Sanya

China's 12th National Traditional Games of Ethnic Minorities closed on Saturday evening in Sanya, Hainan Province, with organizers conducting the handover ceremony to the delegates representing next host Hunan Province.

A total of 6,960 athletes competed in the nine-day Games, which featured 18 sports and three demonstration sports.

The 13th National Traditional Games of Ethnic Minorities will take place in Hunan Province in 2027.

2. Shandong clinches four golds in China's inaugural three "big ball games"

Shandong was the biggest winner with four gold and two silver medals at China's first national youth games for football, basketball and volleyball that concluded on November 28.

Reaching the final in all six events, Shandong beat Jiangsu 3-1 and 3-0, respectively, in the men's and women's volleyball finals, claimed the men's football title with a 1-0 win over Shanghai, and clinched the women's basketball title after defeating host Hunan 80-59.

Shandong fell to Guangdong 87-75 in the men's basketball final and lost to Liaoning 2-0 in the women's football final in extra time.

3. Beijing Winter Olympic venues in spotlight again with elite int'l events on show

Beijing's Winter Olympic venues are once again in the limelight, with the ISU Speed Skating World Cup taking place at the National Speed Skating Oval and the FIS Snowboard and Freeski Big Air World Cup held at Big Air Shougang over the weekend.

In the "Ice Ribbon", China's Ning Zhongyan bagged a silver in the men's 1,500m speed skating competition on November 29, trailing 0.32 seconds behind American sensation Jordan Stolz who also claimed the men's 500m gold in a track record time of 34.27 seconds.

At Big Air Shougang, Olympic champion Su Yiming of China progressed into the men's snowboard big air final along with his compatriot Yang Wenlong in the qualification on November 30.

4. China sweeps singles titles at 2024 WTT Finals

The 2024 World Table Tennis (WTT) Finals saw China's Wang Chuqin and Wang Manyu claim the men's and women's singles titles respectively in Fukuoka, Japan on November 24.

In the men's singles final, world No. 1 Wang Chuqin swept past home favorite Tomokazu Harimoto 11-2, 11-8, 11-7 and 11-5 for his third consecutive WTT Finals title.

The women's singles final featured an intense all-Chinese battle between Wang Manyu and Chen Xingtong, as the two players were dragged into the deciding game, where Wang broke away from a 5-5 tie to close out her win at 11-5.

5. Olympic badminton champion Zheng to retire from international competition

Olympic mixed doubles badminton gold medalist Zheng Siwei of China announced on November 29 that he will retire from international competition and next month's BWF World Tour Finals in Hangzhou will be his "last dance."

"Many people expect me to play at least until the Los Angeles Olympics or even longer. Considering our competitiveness, we just won the Olympic gold and rank among the top in the world rankings. As for why I suddenly stop playing, my answer is, this is my life plan," the 27-year-old wrote on Chinese social media platform Weibo.

Zheng added that he chose the BWF World Tour Finals as his farewell event as the host city of Hangzhou is where his professional career began. ■
