Alexander Tischler Design Company was recently tasked with designing a serene 850 square foot apartment in Yekaterinburg, Russia. The goal was to create an elegant yet simple home as a gift for the client's daughter, while staying within a strict budget and allowing her to personalise the space over time.
In Yekaterinburg, Russia, Alexander Tischler Design Company was tasked with transforming a 850 sq. ft. flat into a serene and elegant oasis. The challenge was to create a space that would delight the client's daughter, while working within a strict budget and allowing for personalization over time. With meticulous planning and attention to detail, the design team set out to craft a timeless and functional interior that would exceed expectations.
To kick off the project, the design team focused on meticulous planning, selecting high-quality materials and crafting a detailed cost estimate. With a fixed total price, the clients had peace of mind, knowing there would be no unexpected expenses during the renovation. Custom cabinetry was designed and built to meet the unique needs of the apartment.
The original layout presented some challenges, including a dark corridor connecting the hallway to the bedrooms and a load-bearing column centrally located in the apartment. Alexander Tischler Design Company tackled these issues by removing partitions between the hallway and kitchen-living room, shortening the corridor, and flooding the space with natural light. They also expanded the walk-in closet while keeping the master bedroom intact.
By maintaining a neutral decor throughout the flat, the design created a perfect blank canvas for the future owner to infuse her personal style. The interior features warm wooden textures on furniture, stylish terrazzo patterns on tiles, and striking black accessories, all contributing to a balanced and timeless aesthetic.
In the hallway, a stunning floor-to-ceiling mirror and two spacious wardrobes were installed. The first beige wardrobe cleverly separates the kitchen from the hallway, while the second includes a module for charging a vacuum cleaner. Unique touches, like playful "ribs" handles on the second cabinet, added charm even within a tight budget.
The kitchen corner was expertly designed to maximise the available niche. Lower cabinets feature drawers with built-in handles, while the hood is neatly concealed behind upper cabinets. These cabinets stop short of the kitchen sink to simplify the layout, and large-format porcelain tiles beautifully connect the kitchen with the living room.
In the living room, the functional and stylish furniture layout features a table and sofa positioned side by side, with the TV mounted on the same axis. The exit to the loggia was updated by removing the window sill block and radiator, installing a sliding door, and relocating the radiator to a wall. An in-floor convector minimises condensation while keeping the area cosy, and a fresh air ventilation system with ceiling grilles ensures added comfort.
A versatile room was designed to function as a home office, guest bedroom, or children's room in the future. It includes a desk, ample wardrobe space, and a bed, cleverly hiding the load-bearing column behind a chic shelving unit. Instead of hidden doors, the design team painted the panels and frames the same colour as the walls for a seamless look.
For the bathroom, neutral porcelain tiles with a concrete texture create a modern yet calming atmosphere. A cabinet with a laundry basket sits next to the sink, while the washing machine is discreetly concealed in a column cabinet.
An expanded walk-in closet offers ample storage, reaching up to the ceiling, and is separated from the bedroom by a stylish closet rather than a partition, saving precious space.
The result is a masterclass in understated elegance, where every detail has been carefully considered to create a peaceful and adaptable living space: achieved within a total budget of $122,654.
