BEIJING, June 26 (Xinhua) -- Chinese stocks closed higher on Wednesday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index up 0.76 percent to 2,972.53 points.
The Shenzhen Component Index closed 1.55 percent higher at 8,987.3 points.
The combined turnover of stocks covered by the two indices stood at 643.37 billion yuan (about 90.3 billion U.S. dollars), down from 648.2 billion yuan recorded on the previous trading day.
Shares related to media, entertainment, electronics and information led the gains, while precious metal and shipping sectors were lackluster.
The ChiNext Index, tracking China's Nasdaq-style board of growth enterprises, gained 1.8 percent to close at 1,730.64 points Wednesday. ■
