CHANGCHUN, Jan. 11 (Xinhua) -- An international communication center aimed at strengthening ties between northeast China's Jilin Province and the rest of the world was launched on Saturday in Changchun, the province's capital city.

This new center is designed to serve as a platform for fostering mutual understanding and cultural exchange, while also striving to enhance the effectiveness of international communication, according to Bai Yu, an official from the province's publicity department.

Jilin is not only home to a rich cultural heritage that spans thousands of years but is also a vital northern gateway for China's opening up in the new era -- and a key hub for cultural exchanges in Northeast Asia.

Once an industrial powerhouse, Jilin is now a prominent center for ice-and-snow tourism thanks to its abundant winter resources. In addition to its stunning landscapes, Jilin is also renowned for being the birthplace of China's first automobile, its first film studio and its first metro passenger car.

Notably, this province also launched the Northeast China Tiger and Leopard Culture International Communication Center earlier this week -- in a bid to spotlight wildlife conservation.

China officially established the Northeast China Tiger and Leopard National Park in 2021. Spanning Heilongjiang and Jilin provinces, the park serves as a sanctuary for around 70 wild Siberian tigers and about 80 wild Amur leopards. ■
