Met Gala 2024: The best jewellery on the red carpet, from Cartier to Chanel

Tatler Hong Kong

The first Monday of May is synonymous with the Met Gala time. The annual gathering held at New York’s Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute is fashion’s biggest night out; the companion exhibition was titled Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion, while the dress code for the gala was itself with The Garden of Time, inspired by a short story by American author JG Ballard.

And while the night is mostly about the fashion, we can’t take jewellery out of the outfit equation. Some of Tatler’s favourite gem looks from the night include Michelle Yeoh wearing Cindy Chao The Art Jewel’s creations, Jennifer Lopez lighting up the night with a diamond necklace from Tiffany & Co’s Blue Book 2024: Tiffany Celéste Collection, Gigi Hadid was resplendent in Chopard, while Penélope Cruz dazzled in bespoke Chanel high jewellery.

Zendaya’s appearance on the Met Gala red carpet is always one of the most eagerly anticipated. This year was no exception: a co-chair of the gala and star of new Luca Guadagnino movieChallengers, the actress went down a subdued route with her jewellery, wearing just a single emerald ring and complementary earrings.

The simple pieces served as the perfect foil to her striking green and blue peacock gown by John Galliano for Maison Margiela and vibrant green fascinator adorned with a black plume and a netted overlay that swept gracefully across her forehead. Her make-up was equally daring, enhancing her theatrical look.

The stones were set in three precious metals: titanium, 18-karat yellow gold and 18-karat white gold. The Oscar winner paired the statement earrings with an emerald floral ring from Chao’s White Label collection which is made of a 3.45 carat cabochon emerald, white diamonds, sapphires and tsavorites.
