The Met Gala, an annual fundraising event for the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s The Costume Institute in New York City, was held on May 6—the first Monday in May.
It was one of the most anticipated events in fashion and entertainment, as major celebrities attend dressed to the nines per the year’s theme, which often ties in with The Costume Institute’s latest exhibition.
Anna Wintour, global director at media company Condé Nast and one of fashion’s biggest names, has been heading the event since 1999 and is responsible for its increased popularity and success (last year’s gala reportedly raised US$22 million, according to Vogue Business). Zendaya, Jennifer Lopez, Chris Hemsworth, Bad Bunny and Wintour. They’ll likely have some of the most impressive pieces, and based on Zendaya’s track record at recent press events for Challengers and Dune: Part Two, all eyes will be on her.
Honorary chairs of the event include Loewe creative director Jonathan Anderson and TikTok CEO Shou Zi Chew, as both companies are supporting the event.
As is the case every year, a select group of celebrities, internet personalities, fashion lovers and influencers will host The Met Gala’s red carpet and social media coverage. The list this year includes actress Gwendoline Christie, actress LaLa Anthony, model Ashley Graham and YouTube star and entrepreneur Emma Chamberlain.
