Florence Nakijoba, 26, teaches Chinese language at Entebbe Comprehensive Secondary School in Kitoro, a small village in the central Ugandan district of Wakiso.
She was among the teachers who underwent a nine-month training course in Chinese language teaching in 2019, when the government rolled out Mandarin in the school curriculum.
Nakijoba teaches intonations, tenses and sentence construction. The class, which is composed of about 90 students in their early teenage years, is still at the elementary level of learning the language.
Ephraim Muwonge, deputy headmaster of the school, says that learning the Chinese language is one of the sure ways of deepening the people to people relations between China and Uganda.
