BEIJING, June 24 (Xinhua) -- Chinese stocks closed lower on Monday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index down 1.17 percent to 2,963.1 points.
The Shenzhen Component Index closed 1.55 percent lower at 8,924.17 points.
The combined turnover of stocks covered by the two indices stood at 695.6 billion yuan (about 97.7 billion U.S. dollars), up from the 619.6 billion yuan recorded on the previous trading day.
Shares related to media and entertainment suffered major losses, while liquor-making stocks secured strong gains.
The ChiNext Index, tracking China's Nasdaq-style board of growth enterprises, lost 1.39 percent to close at 1,731.51 points on Monday. ■
