Table tennis and badminton competitions of China's National Special Olympics opened in Xi'an, the capital city of northwestern China's Shaanxi province, on Thursday. In six days, a total of 393 participants from 25 table tennis teams and 22 badminton teams across the country will compete in an atmosphere of joy and friendship.
A pioneer in developing Special Olympics sports, Shaanxi has hosted two editions of the National Special Olympic Games in 2002 and 2021. Since the province launched the "Cheer for Special Olympics" initiative in 2023, over 25,000 people with intellectual disabilities have participated in different kinds of Special Olympics sports events.
