GLOBALink | Spring Festival sports meets become rural tradition in east China

On the first day of the Chinese New Year, the annual Spring Sports Meet opened at the Baisha Village, Jiangshan City, in east China's Zhejiang Province.

Alongside traditional events such as tug-of-war, table tennis, badminton and a log-lifting contest, a new "Happy Life, Family Joy" competition was introduced this year.

Started in Baisha Village in 2005, the village sports meet has expanded from simple agricultural games to events held across 123 administrative villages in the city, forming a popular folk custom of "100 Villages, 10,000 People Celebrating the Chinese New Year with Sports."■
