CAIRO, March 7 (Xinhua) -- The United States and Israel escalated their military campaign against Iran on Feb. 28 with a wave of massive airstrikes that killed Iran's Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, several senior military commanders, and hundreds of civilians.

Iran has since responded with multiple waves of retaliatory missile and drone attacks targeting Israel and U.S. assets across the region. Lebanon's Hezbollah has also joined the fray, firing its own barrages of missiles and drones toward Israeli territory.

As the exchange of fire continues, air raid sirens and loud explosions from interceptions have repeatedly echoed across Israeli cities, sending millions of residents rushing to bomb shelters.
