Angelina Jolie is no stranger to changing her look—having been in the film industry for three decades, she’s tried a plethora of different make-up and hairstyles in films, on red carpets and everything in between. While we’d describe her style today as feminine and timeless, due to the fact she often turns to classic beauty looks that amplify her existing features, Jodie has been quite the chameleon in her career.

Jolie’s simplest yet most transformative make-up looks is a red lip. While her lips are already a focal point on her face, the addition of red lipstick further accentuates their fullness. By keeping the rest of the face simple with groomed eyebrows, subtle eyeshadow and sculpted cheekbones, the make-up looks fresh and chic for different red carpet events.

One of our favourite ways that Jolie wore this look was when she portrayed Maleficent in the eponymous 2018 film—in the original Disney animation, Maleficent’s appearance is pale and cold, but in the live action adaptation of the film, Jolie‘s red lip brings an added element of glamour and warmth to the complicated character.

On the topic of lips, Jolie emphasised her lips in an alternative way at the Eternals film premiere last year. Jolie walked the red carpet in a taupe strapless column dress, which already appeared ethereal, but it was further elevated with the addition of gold lip jewellery that hooked on her lip and extended down her chin. It looked both ancient and futuristic, a nod to her role as a literal goddess in the film, and drew focus to her face in a unique fashion.

When Jolie portrayed Lisa Rowe in Girl, Interrupted, she didn’t just win an Oscar for Best Supporting Actress—she also presented an iconic look, that being a severely short fringe that gave her character’s “bad girl attitude” even more edge. Not many people can pull this style off, and Jolie wore it with a confidence that made us considering taking scissors to our hair. Prior to that film, she sported an shorter cropped do as Kate Libby in the 1995 cyberspace thriller, Hackers. The androgynous pixie cut suited the young actress, who was 20 at the time of filming, and played into the cool new culture of technology that was emerging then.

We often associate Jolie with being brunette, and she doesn’t often stray from that look. The dark hair contrasts her fair complexion in a flattering way, however, she’s dabbled blonde locks before, which changes her colouring entirely. She wore a short, bright blonde and curly style for her role as Lanie Carrigan in Life, Or Something Like It, which was a complete 180 from her usual look. The effect was striking—she looked adorable yet glamorous, and the cut was akin to Marilyn Monroe’s signature hairstyle. More recently, she revisited golden locks in Eternals, this time wearing it longer and with volume that worked well to frame her character’s headpiece. As Thena, she wore champagne coloured armour, and this cooler shade of blonde complemented that colour palette to make her glow.

Femme Fatale

There’s no denying that Jolie’s natural beauty—with her almond-shaped eyes, high cheekbones and a sharp—is mesmerising. Those features are intense, somewhat feline, and very feminine, and when further emphasised with sultry eye make-up and a voluminous blowout, she becomes quite the “femme fatale”. At the premiere of Mr and Mrs Smith in 2009, she sported smoky eyeshadow, contour and a matte pink lip, as well as an iconic black leather halter neck dress, which became one of her most memorable looks. She recreated it again on the red carpet at the 2012 Screen Actors Guild awards, refreshing the look with warmer shades and a glossy lip, which looked even more glamorous.
