COLOMBO, May 6 (Xinhua) -- On the day of the full moon in May, Buddhist devotees gather at a temple on the outskirts of Sri Lanka's capital Colombo to celebrate Vasek Day, which, in the South Asian tradition, commemorates the birth, enlightenment, and passing away of the Buddha.
As part of the celebrations, temples are decorated with illuminations, while young and old alike engage in religious meditation and meritorious deeds, offer flowers, and pray with lit joss sticks and candles.
The Vesak Day was celebrated on May 5 this year in Sri Lanka.
