A cambodian minister said traditional and non-traditional security challenges, along with economic and humanitarian crises, are common challenges and concerns that need to be tackled together.

PHNOM PENH, Aug. 17 (Xinhua) -- Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister and Defense Minister Gen. Tea Banh said on Tuesday that the 10th Moscow Conference on International Security highlighted multilateral cooperation for the sake of regional peace, security, stability and prosperity.

In a pre-recorded video address delivered to the conference held in Moscow, Russia, Banh said the current regional and global security situation is facing complex changes, with many issues emerging at the same time, both non-traditional security and traditional security issues.

Tensions between countries in the region, which have risen during the COVID-19 pandemic, have not yet ended and have shown no signs of ending any time soon.

"Subsequently, it poses a serious threat and a serious concern for the global security landscape," Banh said.

He added that traditional and non-traditional security challenges, along with economic and humanitarian crises, are common challenges and concerns that need to be tackled together.

"In this regard, Cambodia would like to emphasize its position on 'unity for cooperation,' (and) not 'unite to confront each other', and we will abide by the principle of win-win cooperation," he said.

Cambodia is the chair of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) for 2022.

Banh said Cambodia will host the ASEAN Defense Ministers' Meeting Plus (ADMM-Plus), the ASEAN-Russia Defense Ministers' Informal Meeting and related meetings at the end of November 2022.

He extended his invitation to Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu for the ADMM-Plus and related meetings.■
