Situated in Marina South, Ap Lei Chau's Southern District in Hong Kong, this residential property spans across 1,657 square feet and boasts breathtaking sea views, makingittheperfectplaceto enjoy the beauty of the ocean.

The design team at Eva Wong Architects designed this home for a retired couple with the intention of extending the outdoor terrace space into the interior, connecting the indoor and outdoor environments. They also cleverly incorporated curved elements to enhance the elegance of the space.

Due to the irregular overall layout, Eva Wong led the design team to reorganize the floor plan, modifying partition walls, entrances, and overall layout. The main challenge during the renovation process came from the complex concealed mechanical and electrical (E&M) systems within the existing false ceiling, as well as insufficient natural lighting in several interior areas.

The homeowners have different sleeping habits, so the two bedrooms are now separated by double-glazed sliding doors. These doors serve to both divide the rooms and provide sound insulation. To ensure privacy, remote-controlled curtains are utilized. During the day, the curtains can be fully opened, allowing for a seamless connection between the two rooms. But at night, the curtains can be closed, offering privacy to each room and accommodating different lifestyle preferences.

In preparation for possible future challenges, the design team also incorporated barrier-free pathways and facilities into the space, ensuring that all areas of the residence are wheelchair accessible. Particularly, the accessible bathroom is designed with a separate dry and wet area, providing a comfortable and convenient bathing experience for individuals.

The design aims to create a stylish and healthy living space with smart devices and sanitary equipment. It incorporates technology to reduce virus transmission, such as a touchless toilet flushing system. The residence also features a smart home system for convenient lighting and air-conditioning control via a mobile app to meet various lifestyle needs.
