The Cape Verde National Assembly confirmed Nov. 9 the date for the swearing-in ceremony of the new president of the Republic of Cape Verde, Jose Maria Neves, who won the Oct. 17 elections.

PRAIA, Oct. 26 (Xinhua) -- The Cape Verde National Assembly confirmed Nov. 9 the date for the swearing-in ceremony of the new president of the Republic of Cape Verde, Jose Maria Neves, who won the Oct. 17 elections.

In a note to the press on Monday, the Communications and Image Bureau of the Cape Verdean Parliament said that the president of the National Assembly, exercising the powers conferred by the Constitution and after prior consultation with the representatives of the competent sovereignty bodies and with the elected president, has set the extraordinary sitting of swearing-in for Nov. 9.

According to the same source, several national and international personalities have already been invited to the ceremony, including the Heads of State and Government of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) and the Community of Portuguese-Speaking Countries.

The National Electoral Commission (CNE) of Cape Verde confirmed Friday the victory of Jose Maria Neves in Sunday's presidential elections, with 95,974 votes, or 51.75 percent of the vote.

CNE President Maria do Rosario Goncalves said that the presidential elections on Oct. 17 had been "integral and transparent."
