Chinese boxer Lyu Ping won his Asian Games debut to advance into the men's 57kg round of 16.

HANGZHOU, Sept. 26 (Xinhua) -- Asian Games debutant boxer Lyu Ping of China defeated Iran's Daniyal Shahbakhsh 5-0 to advance to the men's 57kg round of 16 in Hangzhou on Tuesday.

Amid the cheers "Go China" from home crowd, Lyu displayed patience while gradually gaining advantage with a few punches.

"I was quite nervous before the contest, and I chose to attack with caution, because that's also the way he fights, an all-in strategy wouldn't do me good, so I decide to follow his style," Lyu said afterward.

A total of 34 qualification slots for the Paris 2024 Olympics will be offered at the Asian Games, including 14 for men and 20 for women.

Lyu, a silver medalist at the Youth Olympic Games, revealed that he aims to qualify for the Olympics.

The boxing competition at the Hangzhou Asian Games will continue until October 5, with 237 boxers from 38 countries and regions competing for 13 gold medals. ■
