A Poet-Doctor's Bygone Era Clinic in Southern Taiwan is Now a Starbucks

Nestled within Pei Gui Hall, the Starbucks coffee shop exudes a cozy and comfortable atmosphere with its warm, natural tones and unassuming interiors.

Starbucks has a knack for crafting unique spaces that seamlessly blend modern architecture and design with local heritage and social traditions. In this vein, the renowned coffee chain has established a charming locale in Xingang Township, Chiayi County, located in the southern region of Taiwan. This iconic building showcases an amalgamation of Fujian, Japanese, and Western architectural styles, and dates back to the era of Japanese colonial rule in Taiwan, spanning over a century.

Once the residence and clinic of revered doctor and poet, Lin Kaitai Zeng, the establishment also housed the illustrious founder of Cloud Gate Dance Theater, Lin Huaimin, adding to its storied history and cultural significance.
