Conran and Partners, a British architecture and interior design studio, has recently finished the interior design and fit-out of the ground floor reception and amenity areas at Author in King's Cross, London.

The development, located at 180 York Way, consists of three buildings surrounding a landscaped courtyard garden. Conran and Partners integrated elements of urbanity and nature in their design concept, combining patterns and forms from the urban context with textures, tones, and layers inspired by nature.

The entrance to the development is a double-height lobby that sets the tone for the rest of the space. Vibrant pop colours are balanced with natural wood and concrete patterns, complemented by biophilic elements that blend the indoor and outdoor areas.

Timber joinery on the internal walls adds warmth to the space, and curved panelling, inspired by the arches of King's Cross, serves as a dynamic background for the reception desk made of cold rolled steel.

The lobby staircase leads to further amenity spaces, including a private lounge, co-working area, courtyard lounge, garden kitchen, screening room, and gym. The private lounge features green and orange furniture and finishes, with a pool table and a bar backed by a bespoke bronze mirror. Conran and Partners strategically crafted non-uniform lighting throughout the project to create visual interest and a comforting atmosphere.

The co-working area provides residents with versatile work settings, including semi-private booths and a collaborative central table. Laminated bamboo panels create personal space while maintaining visibility and natural light. The courtyard lounge seamlessly merges indoor and outdoor spaces, with a close integration of external architecture and nature.

Moving further into the connected building, there is a private screening room on the left and a garden kitchen on the right. The flooring in these spaces reflects an urban vibe, with a concrete-inspired carpet in the screening room and modern interpretation of Victorian quarry tiles in the kitchen area.

Conran and Partners expertly merged the urban and natural elements in their design, resulting in a harmonious and sophisticated space at Author in King's Cross, London.
