MADRID -- Madrid, the Spanish capital, will on Monday ease the lockdown restrictions imposed over two months ago to halt the spread of COVID-19, the country's Health Minister Salvador Illa confirmed on Friday at a press conference.

Illa thanked the different regional authorities for their "magnificent work over the past weeks."

The Madrid region has finally been allowed to progress after the Health Ministry had previously concluded twice that the region's health system didn't meet the requirements for easing lockdown measures.
