In recent years, the United States has adopted what it calls a "small yard, high fence" strategy in the name of protecting national security.
"To build a small yard is injustice for the American people," said Victor Gao, vice president of the Center for China and Globalization.
"The American people deserve a big yard, the yard as big as the earth itself," Gao said, adding that world is becoming more interconnected and the U.S. shouldn't indulge in the fantasy that they can hide behind a barrier.
