Hong Kong bars made a good showing in the newly released Asia’s 50 Best Bars extended list, celebrating positions 51 to 100. The list, now in its fourth edition, highlights the vibrant cocktail culture flourishing across the region. With four bars earning their places, Hong Kong stands out as a key player in the Asian bar scene.
Mizunara: The Library leads Hong Kong’s entries, climbing twenty places to No. 66. This sophisticated bar, known for its extensive whisky selection and intimate setting, showcases the city’s penchant for quality and elegance. Following closely is Honky Tonks Tavern at No. 67, a lively establishment that has moved up an impressive thirty-one places, proving its growing popularity among patrons.

The Old Man, a homage to Ernest Hemingway, sits at No. 71, maintaining its reputation for innovative cocktails inspired by the literary legend. Tell Camellia, at No. 97, rounds off Hong Kong’s representation with its unique tea-inspired drinks, solidifying the city’s status as a hub for inventive mixology.
Across Asia, Singapore leads with eight bars on the extended list, including the notable newcomer Cat Bite Club at No. 77. Bangkok impresses with six spots, headlined by Tropic City at No. 62 and new entrant Firefly at No. 83. Tokyo follows with five entries, featuring edgy new venues like Tokyo Confidential at No. 53 and Folklore at No. 74, while Seoul’s Soko tops the extended list at No. 51. Malaysia boasts four entries, led by Three X Co at No. 56, followed by Coley No. 70, Junglebird No. 80, and the innovative Backdoor Bodega No. 52.
Other cities represented include Ho Chi Minh City with Stir at No. 58 and Drinking & Healing at No.99, and Nara with Lamp Bar No. 55 and The Sailing Bar at No. 85. Shanghai’s Epic at No. 54 and Sober Company at No. 92 make their return.
Newcomers making a splash include Muntinlupa City’s Southbank Cafe + Lounge at No. 82 in the Philippines and Jakarta’s The St. Regis Bar No. 88, each bringing unique experiences to the table.
As the spotlight shines on these exceptional venues, Hong Kong’s bar scene continues to garner international acclaim, setting the stage for the upcoming Asia’s 50 Best Bars awards ceremony in the city on July 16, 2024. The event, sponsored by Perrier, will be streamed live, offering a global audience the chance to witness the celebration of Asia’s finest in cocktail craftsmanship.
