The 9th edition of Affordable Art Fair returns to Hong Kong from 4 to 7 August, showcasing a plethora of contemporary artworks from over 50 hand-picked local and international galleries. Here’re the highlights!

Whether you’re a seasoned collector or just starting out, rest assured you’ll find the art feat at this year’s Affordable Art Fair (AAF) more than enjoyable and compelling. Returning from 4 to 7 August, the fair has been a dedicated platform for local fanatics to discover new and emerging Hong Kong artists and their thought-provoking works priced between HK$1,000 to HK$100,000, putting local art on a global stage – and this year is no different.

The “Young Talent Hong Kong x Next Gen” programme, curated by Jonathan Jay Lee, is poised to be a high point. A love letter to Hong Kong, it will spotlight thought-provoking artworks themed around “Welcome to the Zoo” by 25 up-and-coming Hong Kong artists, including Steven John Ho and Kristy Hon, interpreting each artist’s unique perspectives of the city and transcending their sentiment through art.

In the meantime, large-scale installations made by artists working with different mediums will be front and centre in the “Special Project.” Taking inspiration from the people and everyday life in Hong Kong, artists like Jonathan Jay Lee, Amber Ng, Sophia Ho Tung, and Yihong Hsu have created a range of enthralling large-scale artworks specifically for the fair that will easily sweep you off your feet.

Another highlights sees AAF partnering with creative and non-profit organisation with the sole purpose of democratising art in Hong Kong. Local art community ARTube Store’s art installation in the form of a supermarket is a playful twist of how art is generally displayed in galleries or exhibition. Giving art access to all is also one of AAF’s steadfast commitments, which is why it works with Keenable Creation in presenting artworks by over 20 disabled artists including Liu Tung Mui and Ko Nam, bridging them with the public and commercial world.
