BEIJING, May 30 (Xinhua) -- The Xijiang River in south China's Pearl River basin flooded on Monday, marking the nation's first major flood of 2022, the Ministry of Water Resources said.
At 11 a.m., the water inflow of the Longtan Reservoir, located on the upper reaches of the Xijiang River, amounted to 10,900 cubic meters per second.
The ministry is maintaining a Level IV emergency response for flood prevention that was activated previously due to heavy rain lashing many provincial-level regions in south China.
It pledged efforts to closely monitor the precipitation, water and flood situations, and to guide work on coordinating and managing water conservancy projects.
China has a four-tier flood-control emergency-response system, with Level I being the most severe. ■
