XI'AN, May 5 (Xinhua) -- A research team in Xi'an, China, has successively bred and promoted 15 wheat varieties through wheat cross-breeding.
Nearly 70 percent of the 26-member team in Yangling Qinfeng Seed-industry Co. are "post-80s" and "post-90s."
They use advanced technologies to improve the efficiency of wheat hybrid breeding.
China has stressed the crucial role of "Chinese seeds" in ensuring the country's food security.
According to the agricultural ministry, the number of national seed breeding and production bases in China increased to 216 amid the country's seed vitalization drive.
During the 13th Five-Year Plan period (2016-2020), China earmarked over 5 billion yuan (about 782.5 million U.S. dollars) in support of seed production bases. They supply over 70 percent of seeds for crop production and ensure national grain security.
