The annual Salone del Mobile.Milano is now in its 62nd edition and will be held from April 16th to 21st this year. If you're planning to attend, here are five major highlights that you cannot miss!
1. Pavilions 5-7: lnteriors by David Lynch. A Thinking Room
Every year without fail, Salone del Mobile.Milano showcases awe-inspiring and stunning site installations that leave a lasting impression. One of the three major site installations this year, "Interiors by David Lynch: A Thinking Room" was created by the renowned American director, screenwriter, producer, composer and photographer David Lynch in collaboration with Accurat, Design Group Italia and Emiliano Ponzi.
The immersive site installation is represented by two mirrors symbolising two doors, forming the "Thinking Room" combining multiple sensory experiences with narrative storytelling. It allows visitors to immerse themselves in a mysterious space, enter a state of heightened meditation, lose themselves, and rediscover their true selves. The on-site installation comprises a pair of mirrors that serve as symbolic doorways, giving shape to the "Thinking Room." This unique space combines various sensory encounters with compelling narrative storytelling. It offers visitors the opportunity to immerse themselves in a mysterious environment, entering a state of profound meditation where they can both lose and rediscover themselves.
2. Pavilion 10: Under the Surface
Salone del Mobile.Milano is held every other year, along with Euroluce, as well as Salone Internazionale del Bagno & EuroCucina. Last year was Euroluce, and this year, the question of what is the state of bathroom design when it comes to sustainable water use is one that shapes "Under the Surface". This second installation, designed and created by Accurat, Design Group Italia, and Emiliano Ponzi for the International Bathroom Exhibition 2024 (Pavilion 10), is a large-scale site-specific installation. They have designed it in the form of an underwater island, using visuals and narratives to convey an educational message, allowing people to observe the complexity "under the surface" of the world they inhabit. It inspires people to not only look at the surface of things but to continuously learn and become better individuals and consumers, so that design may have hope.
3. Pavilion 2-4:All You Have Ever Wanted to Know About Food Design in Six Performances
This year, EuroCucina 2024 delves into the intricate connection between Food & Design. Six distinct food magazines from various countries will collaborate with artists, designers, chefs and innovative individuals, to showcase food as a powerful symbol and embodiment of culture. The six remarkable performances take visitors on a journey, encompassing displays, reflections, performances, exhibition and tantalizing tasting experiences.
4. SaloneSatellite
SaloneSatelliteis the jewel in the crown of the Salone del Mobile.Milano. Since its creation in 1968, it has been devoting particular attention to young designers under 35,instantly becoming the meeting place par excellence for entrepreneurs/talent scouts and the most promising designers. This year, SaloneSatelliteis celebrating its 25th anniversary with a large exhibition at the Triennale di Milano, at which designers first encounteredon the cusp of their careers will present their most recent projects, already in production or not.
5. Pavilion 22 & 24: The Choice of International Furniture Brands
Innovation is one of the key factors in the success of the Salone del Mobile.Milano, which is why the 2024 edition includes a reorganization of the trade fair’s spaces to ensure the most efficient times and ways for visiting, as well as optimizing the routes through the spaces. The coming weeks will see major companies such as Molteni&C, Kartell, Knoll, Arper, Edra, Magis and more exhibiting in all the pavilions, starting with a preview of pavilions 22 and 24.
