Sri Lanka issues early landslide warnings for 10 districts

COLOMBO, Nov. 27 (Xinhua) -- Sri Lanka's National Building Research Organization (NBRO) on Tuesday issued early landslide warnings for 10 districts.

The NBRO issued the warning to the districts in Sri Lanka's Western, Southern, Uva, Central, Sabaragamuwa, and North Western Provinces.

Residents in these areas are advised to be watchful for sudden appearance of water sprouts and cracks on walls and on the soil, as these may be signs of impending landslides, the NBRO said.

Earlier, Sri Lanka's Department of Meteorology issued a red alert warning that the deep depression in the Bay of Bengal is likely to intensify into a cyclonic storm on Wednesday.■
