China's Wang Xiyu stopped in the third round at the US Open after losing to American Alison Riske-Amritraj.

NEW YORK, Sept. 2 (Xinhua) -- Chinese player Wang Xiyu lost to American Alison Riske-Amritraj 6-4, 3-6, 6-4 in the women's singles third round at the US Open on Friday.

21-year-old Wang shocked world No. 3 Maria Sakkari of Greece 3-6, 7-5, 7-5 on Wednesday to reach the third round at a Grand Slam for the first time.

Wang, together with another three Chinese players, Zhang Shuai, Zheng Qinwen and Yuan Yue, entered the last 32 of the US Open women's singles. It marks the first time for China that four players enter the women's singles third round at a Grand Slam tournament.

In a match hours earlier, Zhang claimed a straight-set victory over Canadian Rebecca Marino 6-2, 6-4, reaching the round of 16 at the US Open for the first time in her career. ■
