CHENGDU, Aug. 1 (Xinhua) -- Guo Hanyu and Jiang Xinyu of China clinched a comfortable victory to secure a quarterfinal spot in the women's doubles tennis at Chengdu Universiade, while their men compatriots Gu Jin and Zhao Zhao suffered a defeat against Japanese duo on Tuesday.

Guo and Jiang demonstrated their prowess on the court as they easily defeated South Korean Moon Jeong and Oh Eun-ji 6-0, 6-2 for their quarterfinal berth.

Guo, who won the women's doubles gold medal with Ye Qiuyu at 2019 Naples Universiade, emphasized the significance of maintaining concentration, particularly when playing on the central court with sizeable audience.

In the men's doubles pair, Gu and Zhao faced a formidable challenge from Japanese Shinji Hazawa and Ryotaro Taguchi, losing 6-7(4), 6-2, and 10-4 in the second round. ■
