People enjoy Gotong Toapekong cultural celebration in Indonesia

TANGERANG, Indonesia, Sept. 23 (Xinhua) -- People enjoyed a grand cultural block party featuring dancing, theatrics and a love for traditions during the Gotong Toapekong cultural celebration at Pasar Lama in Tangerang, Banten Province, Indonesia.

The Gotong Toapekong cultural procession is held once every 12 years, and the Boen Tek Bio Temple Association parades the statue of the Dewi Kwan Im Hud Couw goddess along the city road.

Rooted in Chinese culture, the Toapekong ritual has been designated as an intangible cultural heritage by the Indonesian Ministry of Education, Culture, Research and Technology on Aug. 22, 2024.
