CAPE TOWN, Sept. 10 (Xinhua) -- A recent travel survey has ranked Cape Town, the legislative capital of South Africa, as the seventh most affordable city to visit in the world.
Travel service Bounce collected data on the 75 most popular global cities to visit and published last week a top 10 list of the most affordable holiday destinations in the world. Cape Town was ranked in the seventh place, sharing the position with Shanghai in China.
The data were collected by looking at the costs of different aspects, including the cost of hotel rooms per night over weekends, meal prices at inexpensive restaurants, the costs of a draft beer and bottle of wine, and the price of transport, specifically one-way tickets and metered taxis per kilometer.
Based on the criteria mentioned above, the top three on the list are Timisoara of Romania, Buenos Aires of Argentina, and Baku of Azerbaijan.
According to the results of the survey, the most expensive component of a trip to Cape Town would be lodging, which is only second to Buenos Aires at about 256 U.S. dollars. Meanwhile, a meal at an inexpensive restaurant in Cape Town would cost about 9.21 U.S. dollars.
Apart from its appeal as an affordable option, Cape Town also provides rich cultural experiences and stunning landscapes for budget-conscious travelers. Some of the most popular tourist attractions are Table Mountain, the Cape of Good Hope, the Victoria and Alfred Waterfront, and the Kirstenbosch National Botanical Garden.
As a holiday destination, Cape Town is particularly popular among travelers from the United Kingdom, according to local media reports. ■
