ISLAMABAD, April 16 (Xinhua) -- Thirty-nine people were killed in rain-related accidents across Pakistan over the last three days, the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) said on Monday.

The country's east Punjab had been worst-hit in the ongoing rain spell with 21 fatalities in separate lightning incidents, the NDMA said in a statement.

Seven people were killed in roof collapse and lightning incidents in the southwestern province of Balochistan, whereas eight, including children, died when the roofs of their houses collapsed in northwest Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province.

In Pakistan-controlled Kashmir, two people died after slipping into the river, while one man died after being buried under an avalanche in the northern Gilgit-Baltistan region, the NDMA added.

A total of 37 houses, a bridge, and two roads were damaged in Balochistan whereas in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa 15 houses collapsed.

In an advisory released on Monday, the NDMA said that a fresh rain spell is expected from Tuesday in the country due to which widespread rains, windstorms, and thunderstorms are expected in most parts of the country.■
