Chinese smartphone maker Oppo has opened its European headquarters in Düsseldorf, following its entry into western Europe, including France, Italy, Spain, Netherlands, and the UK since 2018 and Germany in February, the company announced on Friday.

“We are proud of what has been realized so far and are convinced that this new organization will allow us to go even further in supporting our local offices and to roll out our development plans for an even stronger presence in Europe,” said Maggie Xue, the company’s President of West European Region, in a press release.

With Huawei facing a slew of sanctions in overseas market, its Chinese peers are stepping up in the opportunity. Earlier this month, Oppo announced a partnership with the UK telecom giant Vodafone to bring its smartphones to European markets.

Per data from research firm Counterpoint, Oppo’s global shipments in the first quarter of 2020 were 22.3 million, down 13% year on year amid the COVID-19 virus.
