- Announcements come amid another weekend of protests in city, with teachers’ march in Central under way
- Authorities warn of flooding in low-lying and poorly drained areas
An amber rain signal and thunderstorm warning were issued by the Hong Kong Observatory on Saturday as the city kicked off another weekend of protests.
The colour signal " the first on a three-tier scale of severity " issued at 11.15am means heavy rain has fallen or is expected to fall generally over Hong Kong. But, the signal was taken down at 12.30pm.
The warnings came as a protest march by teachers was under way from Chater Garden in Central, to be followed by another anti-government march in Hung Hom at 3.30pm.
A pro-government rally is also set for 5pm at Tamar Park in Admiralty.
The Observatory warned of flooding in low-lying areas and where there was poor drainage.
