"Always question decisions to seek the best technical solution – don’t take “no” for an answer, at least not immediately!" said Conran and Partners' principal and partner Tina Norden, the creative force behind this not-so-typical villa in Tai Po.

CLIENT BRIEF

The client wanted a modern home that exuded luxury without being ostentatious. They asked the firm to reimagine the layout and refine the details to create a relaxed, yet aspirational space suitable for contemporary family life.

CONCEPT & STYLE

This 5,341 square-foot two-level house features four bedrooms with breathtaking views of the Plover Cove Reservoir. It is designed to be a city escape while still embodying sophisticated urbanity. With its large footprint and ample entertaining areas, it focuses on connected, multi-generational living.

“Our concept aimed to create an authentic experience that departs from traditional luxury,” said Tina Norden, principal and partner at Conran and Partners. “We embraced the beauty of the surrounding reservoir and the harbour to elevate the concept of contemporary luxury, combining European design with the beauty of nature and curated treasures.”

The house boasts a statement-making 7.2m-high foyer with a floor-to-ceiling window. The ground floor houses the living, dining and kitchen areas, all opening onto the outdoor garden. The front garden extends from the kitchen to the living and dining room that’s perfect for social events.

The four bedrooms are located on the first and second floor, with the master suite taking over the entire second floor. This suite spans over 1,400 square feet and includes a cloakroom, a spacious dressing room and a private balcony with scenic views of the Plover Cove Reservoir.

CHALLENGE

Much of the structure was already in place, so the design firm had to work closely with the project team to adjust where possible, and tweak the structure and the mechanical, electrical and plumbing to suit its proposals. The long and narrow layout required careful planning to ensure the space felt equal parts spacious and luxurious.

SOLUTION

The firm maximised natural light and views in all spaces, creating a long axis through the living areas and utilising every space to its full potential.

Tips

No is not an answer
Always question decisions to seek the best technical solution – don’t take “no” for an answer, at least not immediately!

Timelessness is keyAlways seek to use a timeless material palette to ensure longevity, keeping it sufficiently neutral to allow residents to overlay their own lives.

Stay ahead
Consider how people want to live today and develop spaces that suit a modern lifestyle.
