The New Bakehouse Tsim Sha Tsui is Finally Open

Tatler Hong Kong

Big news for bread lovers: Gregoire Michaud’s Bakehouse has finally opened their third branch this winter, and this time it’s in Kowloon. More precisely, the new branch has taken over a site on Hankow Road in Tsim Sha Tsui. Originally slated to open by mid-December 2021, the bakery had some setbacks but has officially launched today (11 January), with queues snaking down Hankow Road—a common sight at the Wan Chai and Soho branches.

News of the opening blew up on social media back in November, testament to the enduring appeal of Michaud’s iconic brand that only started in Wan Chai in 2018. At the end of 2020, they launched a takeaway-only outlet in Soho, Central, to better serve the legions of fans that would crowd Bakehouse Wan Chai’s sidewalks from morning to early evening—at one point, the team were churning out hundreds of their signature sourdough egg tarts at a time, and even had to limit customers temporarily to six pieces each to avoid supply issues.

The Central branch also introduced new exclusive items, such as the beef rendang pie, Tarte Tropezienne, sausage roll and new made-to-order sandwiches such as the beef brisket. For the Tsim Sha Tsui opening, Michaud presents a new Japanese-inspired curry bun that's grilled to order.

We are super excited to open on Kowloon side. It's very meaningful in many ways

The Tsim Sha Tsui shop space is a small one, and like Soho is a takeaway-only venue, meaning that Wan Chai is still the only cafe-bakery in the trio. Watch this space as we bring you more updated information on the new Bakehouse—or Bakehouses, as Michaud shares that he will be launching another takeaway branch in Stanley, too.
