Done by Injection Interior Design Studio, Jin Ya Ju Noodle Bar’s latest outpost at The Hong Kong Palace Museum appeals with its impeccable interior design and top-notch Chinese fares.

After five years in the making, The Hong Kong Palace Museum finally celebrated its grand opening in the West Kowloon Cultural District earlier this month. The city’s latest art and cultural destination not only lifted the curtain on over 900 priceless treasures from the Palace Museum – most of which are being exhibited in Hong Kong for the very first time – it also unveiled three beautifully designed, deluxe restaurants offering curated gastronomy as befit the awe-inspiring cultural landmark.

Among which is the Jin Ya Ju Noodle Bar's second restaurant in Hong Kong, following its debut at The Peak. Sprawling 1,300 sq.ft. on the museum’s ground floor, the renowned culinary brand originating from Shanghai specialises in a variety of popular Chinese fares and noodles, highlights including Huadiao chicken noodle soup and braised beef noodle soup.

“We designed Jin Ya Ju Noodle Bar’s branch restaurants at The Peak Galleria and Palace Museum. Though it’s the same brand, they follow different styles and differ in their briefs,” said designer Ivan Shim, of Injection Interior Design Studio. “With The Peak, it’s very much luxe, opulent and grandiose. On the contrary, the West Kowloon Cultural District Authority wanted us to integrate a Chinese character that matches the museum architecture.”

From the vintage bronze bars on the ceiling and the concrete-effect feature wall that echo the building exterior, to the main dining room with its Chinese-inspired wall painting and a shimmering pendant light as a centrepiece, the restaurant is as much a feast for the eyes as it is for the stomach.

Shim zoned in on the large-scale 360-degree artwork pieced together from a single photograph, affording a bird’s eye view of Hong Kong’s iconic Victoria Harbour: “Looking outside the windows from the museum gives us a sweeping view of the harbour. We worked hand in hand with an artist to pay tribute to this marvel and translate it into a piece of artwork inside the restaurant.”

Another eye-catching feature is the LED pendant light shimmering like a golden sphere suspended atop rows of dining tables. “The lightweight statement lamp has a transparent core. It looks especially gorgeous when the night falls. Against a dim background, the many LED lights cast a lovely reflection on the windows fronting the harbour coastline.”
