Varying shades of pink grant this home for five in Pok Fu Lam a feminine touch with pizzazz.

The colour of pink is fairly uncommon in Hong Kong residential design because it is considered by many to be overstimulating, and even gaudy. But this 2,429 square foot apartment in Pok Fu Lam, conceived by hoo for a young family of five, has proven the exception.

“Pink is the favourite shade of the couple’s three lovely daughters, so we used the rosy hue as the unifyingpalette of the home,” says YC Chen, founder of hoo.

“This also syncs with the wife’s favourite style of feminine and classic elegance, and who also has a penchant for fashion and beauty.”

For the girls to grow up more intimately, Chen reconfigured the original four-bedroom layout into two bedrooms to make room for a bigger master suite and a shared children’s room “so that the girls can play and grow together”, he says.

The apartment features an entrance hall, an open-plan public zone, a master suite, a children’s room, a study room and a kitchen. Entering, you’re met with an ivory French panel and patterned tiles intended to make a first impression that is subtly elegant and refined. The right end of the foyer leads to the kitchen, while the left opens to an airy living area governed by soothing shades of grey and pink.

Here, an unimpeded sea view through a wide opening to the balcony blesses the room with extra openness. The bespoke marble-clad TV wall offers plenty of display area for the husband – an avid car lover – to display his precious model car collection.

At the centre, a rounded coffee table by Artemest is franked by a pair of KnollStudio’s Platner side chairs, and a plush three-seater by Moroso, which divides the room into living and dining zones.

In the dining room, the Gem Branch Chandelier from Giopato & Coombes stretches above a marble-top dining table by Presotto, surrounded by a group of rosy Beetle chairs by Gubi that lends the room a delicate dash of femininity. To the right of the dining area is a secluded study room for the girls’ piano practising and schoolwork.

The children’s en suite room is in millennial pink, featuring a serene sleeping space decked with ribbed storage surfaces, and a delightful bathroom splashed with blush-toned tile work.

The rosy scheme continues to the opposing master suite, where a feature wall clad in Inkiostro Bianco’s dusty pink wallcovering, packs a whimsical punch to the room, with a pair of Umanoff pendants by Menu adding extra pizzazz.

A tasteful colour combo, and meticulous surface details, make for a family haven where “everyone can find something they love”, Chen concludes.
