TIANJIN, March 22 (Xinhua) -- Rivers have close bond with cities. Throughout the ages, rivers witnessed the founding and development of cities, connecting the cities' past and present.
Dubbed as "mother" rivers, River Thames runs through London, capital of the UK, and Haihe River runs through north China's Tianjin Municipality. Although located in different countries, there are great similarities between the two rivers and the two cities.
Along the River Thames, famous landmarks such as the Big Ben, Tower Bridge, the London Eye, the Shard, witnessed the development of London as well as the history of Britain. In London, people's life is also closely connected with the River Thames. There are many parks and streets along the River Thames. Between ancient architectures and modern buildings, the winding roads in London are always full of life. People can stroll along the river, enjoy a classic play of William Shakespeare, or encounter an art exhibition by chance.
As the "mother" river of Tianjin, the Haihe River witnessed the development of Tianjin from a busy river port in ancient times to an industrial city and then a prosperous modern metropolis.
Thanks to the urban constructions and renovations, some 30 bridges have been built across the river, which greatly improved the city's transportation. High-rise buildings, clear water and green river banks have formed the unique landscape of Tianjin. Nightlife, boat tours and neon lights along the Haihe River always attract many tourists.
The year 2024 marks the 10th anniversary of the beginning of coordinated development in the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region. Significant achievements have been made over the past ten years, and high-quality development will be continued in the new era in the region.
