BEIJING, Oct. 23 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Premier Li Qiang has signed a decree of the State Council, issuing a set of regulations on public transportation in cities.

China aims to build a safe, convenient, efficient, green and economical public transportation system in cities, according to the regulations, which will take effect on Dec. 1 of this year.

The regulations stipulate that municipal governments are responsible for developing public transportation.

The document, consisting of six chapters and 55 articles, also demands efforts to enhance public transportation services and ensure safety. ■
